GERDA DALEY, A MAJOR FAN of The Klezmorim from the very start, wanted everyone else to get in on the fun too. Throughout the 1970s she faithfully interviewed us, broadcast us live, and gave our albums lots of radio play on Pacifica station KPFA in Berkeley. At the time I thought maybe three people were listening, but since then I've run into many folks whose ears were first tuned to klezmer via Gerda's show.
Gerda and her husband Gil, mainstays of the Bay Area folk music scene, could always be found front and center at the Freight & Salvage when The Klezmorim played. They undoubtedly possess the world's biggest collection of bootleg concert tapes from the band's first two years.
