Press coverage of our music was scanty in 1975... but here's a story that may amuse you:
Late in the year, David Julian Gray and I appeared at a Berkeley folk-music benefit doing a strange, wordless performance art routine in which we unpacked and set up vast numbers of instruments, chairs, and music stands... played a single song ("Won't You Play With My Poodle" or some such doggerel)... then broke down the whole shebang at great length, essentially reiterating the prologue backwards.
Our act infuriated the audience; Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton might have pulled it off, but we nearly got lynched. Interestingly, the subsequent newspaper review — evidently written before the event — reported that "Lev Liberman and David Gray performed Yiddish music." 1976 press >>
