THE KLEZMORIM > Bio > Band Members > Kevin Linscott

Kevin Linscott, 1986.

Band member:  1978–88

Instrument:  Trombone, piano

Other functions:  Musical arranger; album co-producer (Jazz-Babies of the Ukraine); dance routines; road soundman

Albums:  Great Hudson River Revival, Metropolis, Notes from Underground, Jazz-Babies of the Ukraine

Good ink: « Trombonist Kevin Linscott, resplendent with a Smith Brothers beard... inject[s] surprising riffs into... rhythmic lines. »     — BAM, the California Music Magazine

Subsequent gig:  The Brass Band

Profile:  Taking up where Professor Gizmo left off, Kevin Linscott became the klezmer revival's second — and, with David Harris, most influential — trombonist, setting a worldwide standard for raunchy slides and loopy glissandos. A master of klezmer rhythm, Kevin could play melodies with sensitivity and grace. And his beard! What a wonder to behold; positively Assyrian.
